In addition to the standard program of “My Italians” (see below), you will get a taste of some of the best cold cuts (prosciutto, salumi etc.) and cheeses of Italy and see how different wines react with these popular Italian foods. This tasting is a real special occasion: We will taste, compare and contrast 7 white wines of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This region produces some of the best white wines of Italy, if not the world! Hard to believe? Never heard of them before? Come and see for yourself why these wines are called super whites. The soils and the climate bear the most interesting wines, both from international and indigenous varietals; and the ambitious winemakers have dug up historic wine making practices (amphorae!) to let nature do its work. The result is wines like you never had before! Directly after the tasting, we will have some specialties of this inter-cultural region (cheeses and hams) where you can directly taste-test the best food-wine matchings, a very important part of drinking wine in Italy.

This tasting is a real special occasion: We will taste, compare and contrast 7 reds from Piedmont, the king of Italian red wine regions, and Lombardy, a (not so) hidden gem neighboring Piedmont. We’ll look into the “modernist vs. traditionalist” way of wine making in Piedmont (esp. Barolo) and also see how terroir changes the results obtained from the Nebbiolo grape - ever heard of Valtellina? Included are also some older vintages so you can get a glimpse of the potential of these wines. Directly after the tasting, we will have some specialties of these regions (cheeses and hams) where you can directly taste-test the best food-wine matchings, a very important part of drinking wine in Italy.
